Odd Fellows Hall

In addition to providing programs and events to strengthen business investments, the SDBA is a real estate developer.  We are setting the example for quality development, and showing what is possible for Southwest Detroit.  From the rehabilitation of our community’s customer-friendly buildings to bringing major national retailers to the community, these projects are creating the standard for commercial investment.

Located in the heart of the Springwells neighborhood, the Odd Fellows Hall building is a 14,000 square foot historic building which includes a full ballroom on the second floor, and three stories in the rear section.  The Odd Fellows Hall is distinguished by its green tile work in the second story window arches and decorative detailing.  It is a contributing structure in the West Vernor Highway National Register District.  It is situated on the walkable commercial corridor, with blocks of houses and small apartment buildings behind it.

Our goal is to renovate the Vernor-Lawndale Project as a key anchor site in this multi-cultural area.  This project - and the surrounding neighborhood - was recently chosen by Governor Jennifer Granholm as one of Michigan's "Cool Cities".  The Odd Fellows Hall is ideally located near the neighborhood’s assets, including:

1) just four blocks from Patton Park, which offers sports, outdoor recreation, and nature trails which will soon connect to Lapeer Park in Dearborn and ultimately to the Ford Rouge welcome center,

2) four blocks from historic Woodmere Cemetery, where visitors can learn about Detroit’s history and also experience the area’s natural topography,

3) five blocks from the bustling shopping district at West Vernor and Springwells Avenue; and

4) half a mile from the Middle Eastern shopping district at West Vernor and Dix.

Neighbors and visitors alike will be able to access resources here by foot or by car.  It’s proximity allows this building, perhaps more than any other location in the Springwells neighborhood, to be the connector point between Detroit and Dearborn, and between our diverse populations.
