Current Work

Getting things done is never a solo activity. When it comes to getting things done in conjunction with an initiative like the Business Improvement District, teamwork is especially vital. Here's how the SDBA Works with the BID Board to make positive things happen in Southwest Detroit:

  • Based on their experiences and work during the formalization process, SDBA was contracted in July 2009 as the administrator of the West Vernor & Springwells Business Improvement District
  • At the direction of the BID Board of Directors, the SDBA manages the day-to-day operations of BID, including maintaining city communications, leveraging additional resources and services, managing the budget, and overseeing BID services
  • Daily interaction with BID business and property owners to solve a diverse set of issues like safety, zoning, and permits
  • The Clean Team works three days a week, eight hours per day, and sweeps debris from the sidewalks, curb lines, and street. In the first half of 2009 alone, the Clean Team removed over 36,000 gallons of trash
  • The Graffiti Removal Team works five days a week, 4-5 hours per day, and removes graffiti by painting or powerwashing. In 2009, the Graffiti Removal Team removed more than 2,500 instances of graffiti.
  • The Litter basket Maintenance Team maintains 65 litter baskets placed through the BID on a weekly basis
