Linking Southwest Detroit to Infrastructure Jobs
The Southwest Detroit Business Association (SDBA) is leading the effort to bring jobs to Detroiters, particularly those living in Southwest Detroit, as part of the major transportation initiatives happening in the area. Southwest Detroit will soon host a total of three transportation projects totaling $6.2 billion. The SDBA played an innovative role during the first of these projects, the Gateway Project, and acted as the voice of the small entrepreneurs affected by the nearly 2 year closure of I-75. We are now working with MDOT on setting a goal to bring 10% of the jobs to Detroiters on the final two projects, the Detroit Intermodal Freight Terminal (DIFT) and the New International Trade Crossing (NITC, formerly DRIC). We are partnering with several organizations in the host community, such as the City of Detroit, Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision (SDEV), and local construction companies to ensure the community benefits from hosting such large construction investments match the initial impact.
